چکیده

In healthcare, robots are increasingly being used to provide a high standard of care in the near future. When machines interact with humans, we need to ensure that these machines take into account patient autonomy. Autonomy can be defined as negative autonomy and positive autonomy. We present a moral reasoning system that takes into account this twofold approach of autonomy. In simulation experiments, the system matches the decision of the judge in a number of law cases about medical ethical decisions. This may be useful in applications where robots need to constrain the negative autonomy of a person to stimulate positive autonomy, for example when attempting to pursue a patient to make a healthier choice.

Impact of two Adjustable Autonomy Models 1 TOPIC CHOICE: Automation, Expert Systems IMPACT OF TWO ADJUSTABLE AUTONOMY MODELS ON THE SCALABILITY OF SINGLE-HUMAN-MULTIPLE-ROBOT TEAMS FOR EXPLORATION MISSIONS

Objective: Evaluate two models for adjusting autonomy in mobile robots, seeking to find out what is the best way for the operator to interact with the system with as many robots as possible. The first model is the most used in mobile robots, the second proposes a flexible autonomy management. Background: There are different ways of adjusting the autonomy level in man-machine systems: “Adjustabl...

Autonomous Rescue Operations on the IUB Rugbot

Full autonomy is an interesting feature for rescue robots not only from a basic research perspective but also in respect to an application oriented view. Autonomy can help a single operator to handle multiple robots or to manage areas that suffer from disturbances in the RF-communication. Furthermore, the different modules used for autonomy like mapping and victim detection are also tremendousl...

Results in Sliding Autonomy for Multi-robot Spatial Assembly

We have developed a software architecture for teams of robots and humans to jointly perform tightly coordinated tasks, such as assembly of structures in orbit or on planetary surfaces. While we envision that robots will autonomously perform such work in the future, the state of the art falls short of the capabilities necessary to handle all possible contingencies. Our architecture provides a pr...

EICA: Combining Interactivity with Autonomy for Social Robots

The success of social robots in achieving natural coexistence with humans depends on both their level of autonomy and their interactive abilities. Although many robotic architectures have been suggested and many researchers have focused on human-robot interaction, a robotic architecture that can effectively combine interactivity and autonomy is still unavailable. In this paper a robotic archite...

Disentangling the Effects of Robot Affect, Embodiment, and Autonomy on Human Team Members in a Mixed-Initiative Task

Many future robotic scenarios will require robots to work with humans in teams. It is thus critical to ensure that those robots will be able to work effectively with humans. While various dimensions of robots such as autonomy, embodiment or interaction style have been investigated separately, no previous study has looked at those three dimensions together. In this paper, we report results from ...
